GIOVANNI SCALISI
  GIOVANNI SCALISI

Giovanni Scalisi was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1960. One year later his parents returned to Italy where he would spend his formative years exposed to the art and beauty of the venetian landscape.
At age eight, the family emigrated to the United States and established roots in Brooklyn.
Upon completion of his studies, Giovanni's passion for art and architecture led him to an apprentiship with a master carpenter for six years. He later went on to apprentice with his brother twelve years his senior. Salvatore Adamo Scalisi, an already established and highly recognized fresco artist. It is with Salvatore that Giovanni would learn the genre of art, fresco. Giovanni developed an understanding of the various techniques which included: the mixing of sand, lime, gesso, plaster clay powder, and the application of these materials with a trowel. In additon to the use of pigments, oils and resins. These were all essential in the art of this medium.
After fourteen years of training and collaborating with his brother, Giovanni's own unique vision and style of expression led him to a more nontraditional approach of fresco by incorporating his carpentry skills and fine art ability, creating three dimensional works of art reflecting the european facades of his Italian heritage.
Presently, Giovanni exhibits his art work throughout the United States in both galleries and fine art shows.
